Criteria for selecting Japanese government (MEXT) scholarship students (research students, university recommendation)
Selection is based on a comprehensive evaluation of the following information of the application documents provided by the applicant:
- Academic performance
- Academic history/employment history/research history
- Language proficiency (Japanese, English)
- Whether the applicant's home university has an academic exchange agreement with Mie University
- Research plan
- Purpose of study abroad, the relevance of study abroad to the applicant's future plan, and the utilization of study abroad experiences
- Views on international exchange
- Interview (including email and telephone interviews)

- Financial situation
- Whether the applicants lives in a university dormitory
- Number of times that the applicant has applied for the scholarship

- Motivation for study abroad and plans for after completing the study
- Views on international exchange

Criteria for selecting Japan Student Services Organization Short-term Students Exchange Promotion Program (Inbound) Scholarship students
Selection is based on a comprehensive evaluation of the following information of the application documents provided by the applicant:
- Academic performance
- Education history/research history
- Language proficiency
- Strength of the motivation for study abroad
- Clarity of the purpose of study abroad
- Persuasiveness of the statement of benefits of study abroad
- Views on and interests in understanding of different cultures

Criteria for selecting Japan Student Services Organization Short-term Students Exchange Promotion Program (Outbound) Scholarship students
Selection is based on a comprehensive evaluation of the applicant's academic performance and interviews (including the application documents).
- Academic performance
- Evaluation of the application form and interviews
- Language proficiency
- Learning/research ability
- Persuasiveness of the statement of motivation for, purpose of, and benefits of study abroad
- Social (international) activities
- Character, attitude, willingness, and cooperativeness
