International Internship Program Minisite

Introduction
Mie University in Japan and Thai partner universities (Chiang Mai University, Kasetsart University, Khon Kaen University, King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang, Suranaree University of Technology and Thammasat University) promote international education and career development and offer both undergraduate and graduate students the International Internship Program. The program invites students not only to work training in a company in Thailand or Japan but also to research training and lectures at a host university. This is an opportunity for students to prepare for job-hunting in international business corporations and experience cross-cultural environment.
Outline of the International Internship Program
Exchange of students
The internship program provides students with work training in an overseas company, research training and opportunities to audit lectures at a host university. According to the Memorandum of Understanding for Student Exchange in Cooperative Education and Career Development Program between Mie University and Thai Partner Universities, (November 2006), approximately six students from Thai partner universities and around the same number of students from Mie University will be exchanged per academic year.
Selecting a company and an academic supervisor at a host university
A company for work training and an academic supervisor in a relevant field will be selected for Mie University students by Thai partner universities and for Thai university students by Mie University.
The program period
The internship program will be open throughout the academic year, while the duration and period of work training and its conditions for individual students will be arranged by negotiations between each host universities and companies.
Evaluation for accreditation
Evaluation documents will be issued by host universities after discussions with host companies for accreditation. All the participants are obliged to submit a program report after the internship is completed.
Scholarship
The universities are not obliged to provide scholarships for participants. Nonetheless, Mie University will start the International Exchange Scholarship Program to support international activities of students at Mie University and from overseas this year. For the scholarship availability, please contact the liaison office at your home university.
Liaison office at home universities
The liaison office at a home university will assist students for obtaining information on accommodation, facilities, campus life and others, and application procedures. Thai students who are currently studying at Mie University and returned students will also be able to assist applicants/participants in many ways. (Refer to 8. Contact for Further Information)

Qualification to apply
Students enrolled at the universities participating in the internship program regardless of their nationalities are welcome to apply.
Documents for registration and application
The applicants will be registered as a special auditing student at Mie university or with an equivalent status at other host universities and be permitted to join an academic supervisor's laboratory during the program period. Students on the Short-term Student Exchange Promotion Program (JASSO Scholarship) may also apply to the internship program. The application forms and documents must be submitted according to regulations of host universities and of applicable companies by e-mail via the liaison office of home universities: applicants can download forms at the end.

- A Letter of Reference from an academic advisor at a home university in English
Host companies
Host companies own their offices and factories in the same local areas of host universities, and will provide participants with opportunities to receive work training and experience in technological and business fields. The companies participating in the program will be listed soon.
How to Apply
Students who wish to apply to the program should contact the liaison office of their home university and fill out the registration and application documents (Refer to 3. Invitation Summary). Applications will be screened at home universities and be sent to host universities. Application procedure should be completed within 3 months before the start of the program.
- Submitted documents will be referred only to companies of applicants' choices among the companies participating in the program.
- Submitted documents will not be used for any other purposes but for matching applicants and companies.
- Personal data will be carefully handled according to the Personal Information Protection Policy (Mie University, reference in Japanese: http://www.mie-u.ac.jp/kojinjyoho/).
Schedule
Time schedule What should be done 4 months prior to arrival Receipt of application documents will initiate immigration procedures and registration at host university. 3 months prior to arrival Applicants will be matched with companies by host universities. The results will be notified to the liaison offices of home universities. 1 month prior to arrival Pre-departure orientations for participants will be held at home universities. The liaison offices of host universities will, based on the contents of the submitted application forms and documents, select most appropriate companies for applicants.
Selection of host companies by applicants
The home universities will provide students with the list of prospective host companies and conditions of work training on the website. Applicants may choose companies of their interest.(Refer to 3.3 Host companies)
Preparation of the application forms and other documents
Fill out the application forms and submit them with other required documents to a host university via the liaison office of the applicant's home university.
Notification of matching results
The liaison office of home universities will inform applicants of the results. Applicants will be provided with a letter of acceptance issued by host companies, which is to be submitted to an immigration office to apply for a visa.
Purchase of the internship insurance
Applicants whose host company has been determined must purchase an insurance policy by the start of the internship program. The insurance for personal accidents and compensatory damages for students pursuing education and research sold by the Japan Education Exchanges and Services is available for Thai students in the internship program for 1,300 yen for a duration of half a year. Students of Mie University must purchase the same insurance policy in Japan before departure to Thailand.
Participation in the pre-departure orientations
The participants must also attend a pre-departure orientation that includes business manners.
Others
- Participants must sign the confidentiality pledge in advance, since they may be exposed to confidential information of host companies during the work training. Please read "the Confidentiality Pledge", sign it, and submit it to the host company on the first day of work training.
- During the work training period, the program may be terminated by the host company in case that the participant does not follow the company's regulations, or that the continuance of the training is judged to interfere with business of the company. The student is obliged to inform your host university promptly.
