International Student Scholarship Programs

CIER accepts international students under the following three scholarship programs:

Japanese Language Training Program

This is a program for international students who are awarded scholarships by the Japanese government through the recommendation of Japanese embassies in their own countries. This program offers a six-month preparatory Japanese language training for graduate studies in Japan, including Mie University.

Japan-Korea Joint Program for Undergraduates in Science and Engineering

This program is for students who are awarded scholarships by the Japanese and Korean governments. The students receive a six-month preparatory education in Japanese language and their specialty before starting their study at the Faculties of Science and Engineering at Mie University.

Japanese Language & Culture Studies Program

This is a one-year program for international students from foreign universities whose major is Japanese language or culture. This program helps the students improve their proficiency in Japanese language, and develop their understanding of Japanese culture and society.

International Education in English

This is a course on International Education that is taught in English. It is open to Japanese and foreign students, and specific courses will vary each semester and year.

Japanese Language Courses

CIER offers the following Japanese language courses:

General Japanese Course

Any international student at Mie University can enroll in these courses. Five courses are offered: Basic Course I, Basic Course II, Intermediate Course I, Intermediate Course II, and Advanced Course. Each course lasts 15 weeks. Students wanting to enroll in a Japanese Course for the first time are required to take a placement test at the beginning of the semester.

Intensive Elementary Japanese Course

This is an intensive elementary Japanese course primarily for scholarship students sponsored by the Japanese government through Japanese embassies in their countries (see Japanese Language Training Program above). Other students may enroll through their academic advisors in Mie University. The course lasts 16 weeks and no more than 30 students are accepted. Students study in either Class A for beginners, or Class B for those who have some basic knowledge of Japanese language.
